What AreI keeps, and who sees your question

Written to match what the software actually does. If that changes, this page changes with it.

Who is responsible

AreI is run by Gabriel Lucero, an individual in New Mexico, United States, who decides how the information described here is used. Write to hello@askarei.com about anything on this page. The Terms say who you are agreeing with when you use AreI.

The short version

  • Your question is sent to AI model providers so they can answer it. That is how AreI works, so don't include anything you wouldn't want them to see.
  • Without an account, AreI stores no question and no answer. Its database has nowhere to put them.
  • With an account, your questions and answers are kept for 180 days so you can come back to them, and you can download or delete them at any time.
  • No advertising, no tracking scripts, no third-party analytics. One cookie, and only once you sign in.

Who receives your question

To answer, AreI sends the text of your question to AI models run by Groq and OpenRouter. The receipt at the bottom of every answer lists exactly which models were called. AreI sends them the question and its own instructions, never your email address or account details. What each provider does with the text it receives is governed by that provider's own terms.

If you don't sign in

AreI keeps no record of what you asked or what it answered. To enforce the monthly allowance and its spending limits, it keeps a one-way identifier made from your network address and a secret key, with counts of questions and of money spent. Monthly counts are deleted after 24 months; the spending totals that enforce AreI's limits are kept for as long as the limits exist. None of them contains anything you typed.

If you sign in

  • Your email address, to send sign-in links and to identify your account.
  • Your questions and answers, for 180 days.
  • Sign-in links, stored only as a one-way fingerprint. Each works once and expires after 15 minutes.
  • Sessions: one cookie, __Host-arei_session, which your browser sends only to askarei.com, which scripts cannot read, and which lasts up to 30 days. AreI stores only a fingerprint of it.
  • API tokens you create, stored only as fingerprints. A token is shown to you once.
  • Monthly usage counts, so the allowance works.

Your controls

  • Download everything held about your account, as one file, from your account page.
  • Delete your account from the same page. The rows are removed, not hidden, and it cannot be undone. A backup taken before you deleted can still contain your data until that backup is discarded.
  • Sign out everywhere ends every session on every device at once.

Logs, email and payments

Server logs record the kind of request, the page, the result and how long it took. They do not record questions, email addresses, sign-in links or tokens.

Sign-in links are sent by email through AreI's mail provider. AreI records whether sending worked, not the address it went to.

AreI takes no payments today. When a paid plan is on sale, Stripe will process the payments and AreI will never see your card number; this page will say what AreI keeps about them before anyone is asked to pay.

Questions
