About AreI

AreI is an answer engine built on one idea: an AI answer should tell you how far it can be trusted, and what it could not settle.

The name

AreI is spelled with a capital A and a capital I: A-r-e-I. Its action is Ask AreI, and it lives at askarei.com. Three things went into the name:

  1. It comes from nonpareil, the project's first name: letters five to eight of n-o-n-p-a-r-e-i-l.
  2. Its vowels run in order: A, E, I.
  3. Its two capitals, A and I, spell AI.

The last letter is a capital I, drawn with bars at the top and bottom so that AreI is never read as “Arel”.

What AreI holds itself to

  • An answer says how settled it is. The label comes first, before the answer, in plain words.
  • Agreement is not evidence. Models trained on similar text can be confidently wrong together, so AreI never decides by majority.
  • Declining beats guessing. When nothing meets the bar, AreI says “insufficient evidence”. That costs it answers, and we count that as a cost, not a virtue.
  • No claim without a test that could have refuted it. AreI does not claim to beat the best single AI model, because nothing has shown that yet.

Who runs AreI

AreI is an independent project run by a single operator. It uses AI models made by other companies — today OpenAI gpt-oss, DeepSeek V4, Google Gemma — and is not affiliated with any of them, or with other organisations that use the acronym AREI.
